Productivity Problem #1
Lack of tools = lack of results
To function at full capacity you need the necessary tools to do your work. Lack of proper tools leads to diminished result, possible injuries and deficiencies. Sometimes employers fail to properly provide the tools their employees need to do their best work.
When employees are being held back in this way there is a huge potential for profit loss which far outweighs the cost of the tools in many instances. And let’s not overlook employee morale. Employees want to feel pride in their work, when they are held back it is frustrating and causes them to the lose passion for what they are doing.
Make sure to analyze your business operational needs regularly. Have documented systems and procedures in place to ensure that your tools are replaced and added when needed. This will prevent a lack of tools from ever occurring.
If your business is in a growth stage where large portions of workflow and workplace procedures may be ill-defined, it may take a while to define your needs and set up a new system. Help is available and Professional Organizers that have skills with office and business operations can help you. Streamlining your organization is a worthwhile investment in the long run.
Productivity Problem #2
Poor communication = inadequate workplaces and poor growth
Communication is the way that information is spread throughout a business, keeping everyone informed to the degree needed to get their work done properly. There are many opportunities for communication to fail, yet with awareness you can take the first step to discovering any hindrances and work to solve them.
It is important for everyone to understand that there are others around them who may also require information which they have. Sometimes key managers and staff can be reluctant to share information as a way of securing their position, or because there is resistance to delegating work they feel no one will do as well as them. Either one of these positions is may prove unhealthy in the long run.
Staff should distance themselves enough from problems to notice that others may also require information that they posses. Process mapping your business operations is a great way to draw out information and see the connections. Everyone should also strive to communicate clearly with a practical vocabulary and speaking at a good speed, so that others understand what they are saying clearly. Written communication should likewise be clear, concise, to the point and well formatted.
If you don’t have time to manage these projects on your own, meeting facilitation and skills training is something professional organizers can also help with. Either by providing direct facilitation and project management services or assisting you to arrange other external service providers. It is important to have teams working together to help develop and take ownership of solutions.
It remains a passion of mine to assist in helping business and the individuals working in them to get more done, feel more productive and enjoy the benefits this brings, not only to the business, yet to them personally.
